Guy Kawasaki and Shawn Welch have written a book that will walk you through the ins and outs of self-publishing your own book. It is titled, APE: How to Write a Book: Author Publisher Entrepreneur.
The book is chock full of practical advice, and I immediately latched onto a couple of things: Write and outline and place a copy of it on Google Docs and let others comment on it. Kawasaki does not allow commenting in the document itself, but it an area specifically designated for comments on the Google Docs page.
I have been wanting to write a book for a long time, but I just could not pinpoint where it is I wanted to begin. I wanted it to have something to do with faith, but what, exactly, remained unclear.
I came across the idea of writing a book that would force others to look at the Bible differently. Trying to read and understand the book can be a daunting task. Where does one start?
I decided on a title: “The Pursuit of You: How You Fit Into God’s Story.” It would walk someone through an overview of the Bible, the story of how God interacted with humanity, and then to recast it by having the reader look at the message as God’s pursuit of you.
Well, I was motivated to write an outline, and I was motivated to post it on Google Docs. You can read my rough outline here.
I would like to ask a favor of you: Please take the time to read it (the outline is just a tad over two pages) and offer your comments (there is a button in the upper, right-hand corner of your browser window). This will help the book be more complete.
One friend added a comment on Facebook asking about the Bible as an inspired book. This was a point I overlooked, and I immediately added it to the outline. Perhaps I would have caught in during the writing process, but I am grateful she brought it to my attention.
So, I am going APE over my new book I am writing. Will you help me? Please do so here.
